‘One last jump’proved fatal for boy at reservoir

-

A TEENAGER died in a reservoir after deciding to take “one last jump” from a tower 10 feet above the chilly water, locals have claimed.

The 14-year-old victim, named locally as Bocharie Sonnah, was jumping into Torduff Reservoir, on the outskirts of Edinburgh, on Monday night.

The group had finished jumping and got dressed to go home, but it is claimed the pupil at Firhill High decided to have one last go.

When he got into difficulties his panicked friends cycled to the nearby suburb of Colinton to raise the alarm, but he could not be saved.

Friends have paid touching tribute to the teenager over social media.

One girl who described Bocharie as her “best friend” said: “Rip Bocharie. Love you. Rest in peace.

“Words can’t describe how I’m feeling right now. The thought of going back to school and you not being there, you done everything for me.”

Another close friend posted: “Rip Bocharie my brother, was so close with you. You were a great lad, we’re all proud of Sleep tight big man.”

And chilling footage has emerged on social media sites of numerous daredevils jumping into the same reservoir in recent months, despite extensive warning signs.

Local angling group Clubbiedean Fishery wrote on its Facebook page: “Sad news that serves as a horrible warning, a teenager was drowned in the reservoir just down from us last night.

“...due to the remote location he was unable to be saved in time.”
