Brockhurst Bolshoi tops board at Great Yorkshire

- Ewan Pate epate@thecourier.co.uk

THE INTERBREED beef championship yesterday at the Great Yorkshire proved to be quite a contest but there was one clear winner according to judge Danny Wyllie.

After drawing the Beef Shorthorn, the Galloway, the Charolais and the Limousin champions into the short leet and a further quick inspection it was the eight-year-old Limousin cow Brockhurst Bolshoi that received the slap on the rump much to the delight of freelance stockman Dougie McBeath from Stirling who had brought her out.

Bolshoi’s owner, Doug Mash, from Chesham in Buckinghamshire, was equally pleased especially as she had stood breed champion last month at the Royal Highland.

Ringside obser vers thought she was looking even better yesterday as was her nine-month-old bull calf by Brockhurst Centurion.

Bolshoi is by Grahams Samson and out of Ronick McAinsi.

Mr Mash who has 60 pedigree Limousin cows said this might be her last show outing although he had not completely decided to retire her.

MrWyllie, who was born in Ayrshire but now lives in Tamworth in Staffordshire, said of the champion: “She was just so mobile and correct it was very hard to find fault with her.”

For his reserve Mr Wyllie chose the Galloway leader, a rising three-year-old in-calf heifer from Jim and Selina Ross, Romesbeoch, Shawhead, Dumfries.

Nerys 1307 of Romesbeoch also has Royal Highland honours to her name having stood breed reserve last month at Ingliston.

She is by Kirkmabreck Nimrod and out of Doon of Urr Neyrs.
