ANGLING Frandy proving fruitful

Ballathie, which was where Fred caught May’s fish of the month, weighing 34lb.

On Cargill, grilse were seen and caught. Successful rods included Adam Beenies and Alex Hendrie.

On Meikleour Mrs Jamieson caught a grilse on a toby from the March pool.

In the middle Tay, Kercock saw odd fish, with an impressive 20-pounder landed on Friday. The Murthly 2 beat accounted for odd fish as well. Newtyle saw Graham Barton land a 4lb grilse.

The spinner was working at Dunkeld House, with fish caught on tobies and visions. Lower Kinnaird accounted for one fish.

On the Tummel, Duncan Webster caught a 19lb fish at the dam on the fly and also lost another good one. FRANDY. All areas of the fishery are doing well and the best catching flies include the Bibio Hopper, Kate McLaren, CDC Hoppers and Sedge Muddler.

On the individual front, Brian Thorne and William Tavendale (Glendevon) kept f ive f ish weighing 13lb, George Keith and Tom Langdown (Dunfermlin­e) six fish for 13lb 12oz, Paul Freathy (Alloa) three fish weighing 7lb 8oz and Gordon Birrell (Kincardine) kept three fish weighing 8lb.

Malcolm Campbell (Pitlochry) had three fish weighing 8lb, Jimmy and Scott Barrett (Stanley) six fish for 15lb 4oz and Gordon Simpson and party (Edinburgh) kept nine fish weighing 21lb 8oz. CIBA AC kept 18 fish weighing 49lb 4oz and released nine, Middleton FF 17 fish weighing 51lb 6oz and released six and Ferranti AC took 27 fish weighing 64lb 8oz and released 30. Denny and District AC kept 27 fish weighing 62lb 12oz, Fishing Inc retained seven fish weighing 17lb 14oz and Aberfeldy AC had nine fish weighing 21lb 8oz.

ORCHILL LOCH. The Live Line FC (HE) had a good day taking 36 fish for 89lb 4oz, with G McKinnon taking the heaviest basket with three fish for 11lb 12oz, the best tipping the scales at 5lb. William Smith (Menstrie) three for 11lb on Sedge, D Birkmyre (St Fillans) two for 6lb 12oz on a small red fly, Allan Mitchell (Stirling) two fish for 5lb on Dries and Peter McLean (Clackmanna­n) had two fish for 5lb on Sedge. Jimmy Young ( Alloa) took three fish weighing 9lb 8oz on a Black Fritz, Joe Kilgannon (Stirling) had a brace for 6lb 12oz on a Fab, Douglas Murray (Bridge of Allan) two for 5lb on a Black Nymph and Allan Gunn (Aberdeen) had two fish for 6lb 4oz on Nymphs. Jamie Deans (Stirling) used a Pheasant Tail Nymph to bag two for 7lb and Stewart Terry (Perth) three for 9lb 12oz on Dries and Buzzers.

The last two semi-finals of the SANACC national fly fishing competitio­n have taken place. Firstly at CARRON VALLEY, 125 trout were caught of which one was over 5lb and two were over 4lb. Stanley and District AC’s Scott Miller won with nine trout for 11lb 14½oz, taking his fish on two Fabs fished on a floating line. In second was Graeme Methven. Cupar AC, with 12 trout for 11lb 4oz.

The last semi was held at LAKE OF MENTEITH and 41 competitor­s took part, of which the top 13 progress to the final. A total of 342 trout were caught of which one was 5lb 13oz.

Top rod and winner was Nigel Burns, of Crieff FF, who took his fish on diawl bachs and boobies on a midge tip line. His catch was 16 fish for 32lb 11.4oz.
