Deasley on the mark as Bluebells get season off to winning start

-

Lochee Utd started with a 2-0 win over Arniston Rangers as they embarked on life in the Premier League following last season’s relegation.

Bryan Deasley got the Thomson Park side going when he scored on the half-hour and Phil Hagen doubled the advantage just before the break when he converted a penalty after Deasley had been brought down in the box.

Montrose Roselea threw away a two-goal lead against many people’s favourites for the Premier League title, Haddington Athletic.

Roselea took an early lead when a Liam Campbell effort came back off the bar as far as Cruikshank and he returned the ball into the box for Callum Watson to volley home.

Campbell made it 2-0 just before half-time. The game was there for the home side to kill off but they failed to heed the warning signs.

On 52 minutes Paterson ran in on goal and slotted the ball home to re-energise the visitors.

Twenty minutes later and Haddington were level, Fairnie’s quick feet in the box drew a foul and Devlin stuck away the penalty.

Dundee Violet also got off to a good start with a 2-1 victory over Falkirk Juniors at Grangemouth Stadium.

Robert Urquhart combined well with new signing Ryan Dignan before putting the Pansies in front.

Calum Cox brought Falkirk level but Violet weren’t to be thwarted and Ross Lunan netted the winner in the second half when he headed home man-of-the-match Urquhart’s cross.

Dundonald Bluebell got their promotion campaign off to a fine start over Forfar West End at Moorside Park. A Callum Young brace put them two up before Scott Lawrie and Lewis Elder (2) sealed an emphatic 5-0 success.

Armadale Thistle would have been hoping for a good start to their campaign as they try to return to the Super League but they didn’t bank on a rampant second-half performance from Jeanfield Swifts at Volunteer Park

Chris McLeish scored a 10-minute hat-trick and Tony Holt made it four from the spot on 76 minutes.

A trialist added another on 87 minutes to complete an impressive victory for the Perth side.

A goal from Dalkeith Thistle’s Thomas Waters on 47 minutes was enough to give the home side all three points over Oakley United at Kings Park

Kennoway Hearts beat Edinburgh United 5-0, while newly-promoted Thornton Hibs saw off Bathgate Thistle 5-1.
