Spirit of Zeb can win day in evening feature

Tips: Fahey’s course and distance winner will benefit from season opener

- THE FERRET

Hamilton hosts a seven-race evening card today, with the feature race, the six furlong handicap, the penultimate race on the card at 8.45pm.

Ten runners contest the £10,000 in prize money with SPIRIT OF ZEB getting the nod in a competitive field.

Richard Fahey’s course and distance winner was a decent third on his first run of the season at Catterick over six furlongs at the end of May and will no doubt benefit from getting that out of the way.

Jockey Adam McNamara’s 7lb allowance is also a plus for Spirit of Zeb.

Alistair Whillans’ five-time course and distance winner Alexandrakollontai heads the weights after an easy five-length win on her last start over seven furlongs at Leicester.

Among the other contenders are Alan Swinbank’s Final Venture, a winner of his last two starts.

He was a comfortable winner over the minimum at Hamilton with Keith Dalgleish’s runner Salvatore Fury – also in tonight’s field – four lengths behind in third that day.

Three other horses renew rivalries from that race with fourth-placed Sunraider, from the Paul Midgley stable, and Grant Tuer’s Fyrecracker – fifth that day – also lining up again with Michael Herrington’s Mercers Row, who was outpaced and last of the 12 runners.

SINGYOURSONG can emerge as one of the leading lights as racing returns to Yarmouth.

David Simcock’s charge could potentially be well treated on her current mark of 71, despite the fact she let down favourite-backers on her most recent outing.

Third to the well-regarded Cajoled on her racecourse bow last December, the Aqaleem filly then ran out an easy three-length winner on her next start in January, with a couple of those in behind hitting the target subsequently.

She was then given a break until returning at Wolverhampton last month, where she was sent off favourite but was a bit keen and had to settle for third behind Bocking End.
