Man accused of police assaults

-

A man is to stand trial accused of putting a police officer in a headlock and choking him before taking another officer’s baton and violently attacking him.

Jaeron Ling faces five charges at Dundee Sheriff Court over an alleged incident at a flat in Arbroath High Street last July.

Ling is alleged to have assaulted his then partner by grabbing her by the face and punching her on the body to her injury.

When police arrived he is alleged to have assaulted PC Charles Demore and struggled with him, before repeatedly punching him on the head and repeatedly placing him in a headlock, compressing his throat and restricting his breathing.

Ling is said to have then struck PC Demore in the groin with his knee and pushed him against a door frame to his injury.

The 28-year-old is then alleged to have assaulted PC Scott Hunter, grabbed and struggled with him, removed a police baton from his control and kicked him on the body to his severe injury.

Further charges on the indictment allege Ling resisted, obstructed or hindered four officers by struggling violently with them and lashing out with his arms and legs, and behaved in a threatening and abusive manner, uttering threats of violence towards the officers.

Ling, 28, of Angus Cottages, Friockheim, had his case continued to trial later this month.
