Foxes’ £15m bid for Deeney rejected

-

Watford have rejected a bid in excess of £15 million from Leicester for striker Troy Deeney.

The Hornets are determined to keep their captain and have told the Foxes he is not for sales.

Leicester are looking to increase their firepower and the club have held a long-standing interest in Deeney.

The move for Deeney, who signed a five-year contract last year, comes as the Foxes wait on top scorer Jamie Vardy to decide whether he will join Arsenal after the Gunners activated his release clause.

The England striker, currently preparing for Euro 2016 with the Three Lions, is not expected to make a decision until after the tournament.

Manchester United have announced midfielder Michael Carrick has agreed a one-year contract extension with the club.

The deal, which runs to next summer, means Carrick is going into an 11th year with United.

Jermain Defoe, 33, has extended his stay at Sunderland until 2019 after his goals helped to keep the club in the Barclays Premier League.

Quique Sanchez Flores has been named as the new coach of Espanyol.

Former Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has announced his retirement from football. The ex-Denmark captain is quitting the game at the age of 31 after a professional career stretching back to 2004.

Primera Division side Real Sociedad have signed Southampton striker Juanmi for an undisclosed fee.
