Town ready for latest effort to impress competition judges

-

Carnoustie volunteers are putting finishing touches to town displays ahead of the visit of Keep Scotland Beautiful judges next week.

They are due in town next Monday, as the burgh bids to maintain its proud reputation in the prestigious competition.

Last year Carnoustie was awarded a gold medal and Colourful Carnoustie volunteers have been busy during the spring and summer to make the town look as good as possible.

Volunteer Alec Edwards said he was hopeful the judges would be impressed with what they see during their visit.

He said: “The High Street hanging baskets are as bright as ever, the train station a blaze of colour and various new projects involving the whole community are ready for the big day. The six wild flower beds on Links Parade are just coming into flower and really enhance the grassy bank.

“At the paddling pool, murals painted by high school pupils form a vibrant backdrop to this suntrap of benches and flowers – thanks to Carnoustie Haven for their generous funding.

“The Panda Lane community garden run by the tireless Food is Free Carnoustie volunteers is already providing vegetable and fruit boxes around the town.

“And finally, as a nod to Carnoustie’s heritage through links to the linen industry, a couple of the planters in the High Street have a wonderful display of flax flowers.”
