Lichties to return to Inverness

-

Arbroath head north to Inverness tonight for the second time in three days – and manager Dick Campbell is looking for his side to do better in the Irn-Bru Cup against the under-20 side of hosts Inverness CT than they did in the Betfred Cup against the Highlanders’ first team.

A weakened Gayfield side went down 7-0 on Saturday with Campbell saying: “The Betfred Cup was not kind to us at all. We started brightly against Dundee United but then lost our next three games and picked up a heap of suspensions and injuries along the way.

“We went up to Inverness on Saturday with a really small squad and we were overrun at times.

“Inverness were excellent and whilst I was disappointed with one or two things in our play they deserve full credit for being as ruthless as they were.”

The Lichties are in better shape for this game.

Campbell explained: “We have Ricky Little and Martin Scott available after bans and that will help.

“Michael Dunlop could return after an injury as well and that would be a great help.

“However, our squad is not as big as I would like it to be and we are working on that.”

“We will be facing an energetic young side that will be out to make an impression so this will be a really tough game.

“It would be great to progress but it would be great to progress and not pick up any more injuries or bans.”

Jordon Thomson limped off at the weekend and he will miss out with Gavin Malin also remaining on the sidelines.

Inverness U20s boss Duncan Shearer said: “This is a game that we are looking forward to as it will give the players an idea of what is expected in senior football.”
