Sim stands down as chairman

Montrose have announced that long-serving chairman Derek Sim is stepping down from his post to spend more time with his family.

He had been the Links Park supremo for six and a half years with his term in charge, including last season’s nail-biting Pyramid Play-off Final against Brora Rangers.

Sim said: “I have very much enjoyed my time as chairman but the time is right for me to move on.

“I want to spend more time with my family and travelling overseas with my wife Kathleen, but I do plan to stay involved with the Links Park Community Trust so I will be popping back to Montrose from time to time.”

Montrose honorary president John Paton said, “We are obviously disappointed at Derek’s decision but fully respect his wishes.

“I would like to thank Derek, both personally and on behalf of the club, for everything he has done in his time in charge.”

When Sim became Montrose chairman in 2010, the club was experiencing significant challenges but he very quickly brought financial stability.

Through 2014-15, he oversaw fundraising activities and secured grants to allow the replacement of the worn-out artificial grass at Links Park with a 4G surface.

Earlier this year, Sim was instrumental in the negotiations to buy back the stadium from Bon Accord Estates.

Sim’s successor is expected to be named later this month.
