Ahead of the game... with Abertay University

Ahead is a part-time evening access course offering a route to degree study if you have been out of education for three years or more and do not have sufficient qualifications.

The Ahead course is specially designed to allow people from a diverse range of backgrounds to develop a range of transferable learning skills and subject knowledge.

One of the key benefits of the Ahead course is it is delivered two nights per week between September and May, allowing you to combine your studies with employment or other interests.

There are no formal academic entry requirements needed to enrol on the Ahead course, so if you feel a university education is beyond your reach this is the perfect opportunity to prove to yourself anything is possible.

You will be supported every step of the way by our friendly academic team, and gain a valuable insight into university life to ensure you start your future degree study with confidence and a familiarity with how things work in higher education.

The Ahead course provides a comfortable environment, enabling you to develop, sharpen and improve your academic study skills. You will be taught in a variety of ways, including lectures, seminars, discussions, group work, practical classes and guided independent study.

Assessment methods vary between different modules but take the form of portfolios, essays and reports, presentations and examinations.

During the course, you will also have the opportunity to choose from a range of subjects relevant to the degree you wish to study including psychology, sociology, mental health nursing, sport, business science and computing.

The Ahead course is free to those who meet the Scottish Funding Council’s eligibility criteria. Successful completion offers a world of new opportunities, and guarantees a place on a range of fantastic degree courses at Abertay University.
