CHURCH ANNIVERSARY:
Montrose Congregational Church is celebrating 175 years in the same building.
The church moved from its former premises in December 1841 when it opened the doors of its new building on the corner of Museum Street and Baltic Street.
Since then, it has held regular worship in the church and through generous benefactors added extensive halls, which have been used for a variety of purposes through the years.
They served as an emergency hospital during the First World War, a canteen in the Second World War and have since become a venue for youth organisations, social events, dancing and badminton.
On the first Sunday in September the church, now part of the United Reformed Church Synod of Scotland, will hold a special service of thanksgiving at 11am followed by lunch in the refurbished hall.
As part of the celebration the church is setting up a display of archive material and would be glad to receive any photographs or other material on loan.
MESSY CHURCH:
Newtyle Messy Church takes place in the hall from 1pm on Sunday.
COMMUNITY COUNCIL:
The meeting of Arbroath Community Council due to be held on September 6 at the Portcullis has been cancelled.
The next meeting will now be on Tuesday October 4 at the Portcullis.
