Hill’s title hopes on line

-

Even at this early stage of the season Grove Menzieshill are in a ‘must-win’ situation away to Hillhead, writes our men’s hockey correspondent.

Menzieshill have not lived up to last season’s form but there would seem to be no reason why they cannot do so now.

Kelburne are the only team with a 100% record and should maintain that – and improve their goal difference – against Gordonians, but third-placed Grange on Sunday will be much more competitive.

St Andrews University have a difficult match against a vastly-improved Dunfermline Carnegie.

St Andrews will still be smarting from their ‘defeat’ to Wanderers when they failed to take account of a clash with another event and were unable to fulfil the fixture.

They are still in the mix at the top of the second division where any of five teams could ultimately fill the top two places.

Granite City are the leaders, which means that their clash with Wanderers will be crucial.

Harris and Dundee University both recorded their first win on Sunday but more of the same is needed to move clear of the relegation zone.

Harris are away to Falkirk who are not showing anything like the form that has kept them in the upper reaches of the division for several years.

Dundee University cannot bank on another three points even though Glasgow are on the same points.

A game in hand over the top two in division 3 means that Perthshire could well challenge for promotion and must surely pick up points against Aberdeen University.

Grove Menzieshill II are only fourth in Central Division 1 but have games in hand over the top three teams.

They also have a 100% record as do tomorrow’s opponents, Anchor.

The first division of the Mildland League is back in action after a break for school holidays.

The second division teams have development matches at DISC and Kilgraston on Sunday.
