Added incentive for Locke and Blue Brazil in capital

-

Cowdenbeath will look to come off the bottom of senior Scottish football for the first time in three months by defeating hosts Edinburgh City whilst keeping their fingers crossed that Clyde do not get the better of visitors Annan.

The Blue Brazil defeated the Bully Wee last weekend to increase their chances of redemption, and manager Gary Locke is looking for his side’s battling qualities to come to the fore again.

Locke said: “There is the incentive that we could come off the bottom if we get something from this game, but we will need to work just as hard as we did against Clyde to give ourselves a chance.

“The Clyde game was difficult as they tried to restrict us but the players deserve great credit as they showed a lot of endeavour and worked really hard.”

“It was great for our defence to keep a clean sheet, especially goalkeeper Jamie Sneddon who made a terrific stop near the end of the game.

“The defence have worked hard in training to get to that standard.

“We now need to keep at that standard as we are in another game that can be classed as winnable based on where we both are in the table.”

Locke added: “We need to play well as Edinburgh have a lot of quality in their team and have adapted to life in senior football well after a slow start.

“Josh Walker played at a high level and I know Craig Beattie and Derek Riordan well, so we have our work cut out to keep them in check.”

Locke also has another reason for winning as it would see him get the better of his mentor as he explained: “There is also the added factor of myself and Billy Brown on one side taking on the ‘gaffer’ Jim Jefferies who is the sporting director at Edinburgh City. There are plenty reasons for wanting to win.”

Kenny Adamson and Matthew Rooney remain out injured and Scott Rumsby is suspended with Locke saying: “That is a real blow as he has been playing a real captain’s part.”
