Grove face Clydesdale

-

Two matches remain tomorrow and on April 22 in Division 1 before the postseason playoffs,

writes our men’s hockey correspondent.

Grove Menzieshill will finish third in the league and face the second team away on May 6 for a place in the Grand Final on May 7 in Glasgow.

Menzieshill should win at Clydesdale tomorrow.

Grange and Watsonians are likely to win, leaving Grange to win their last match on April 22 to clinch the league title and a place in Europe.

At the bottom, three teams will be in the play-offs with the second team in Division 2 and that looks likely to be Dundee Wanderers.

Inverleith lead the way, three points ahead of Wanderers – assuming the latter are eventually credited with their win over Glasgow University and awarded the points against Greenock, who called off at short notice – but the Dundee team have a game in hand.

Even a win over Inverleith at 3.30pm at Dalnacraig tomorrow would leave Wanderers trailing significantly on goal difference.

Dundee University face Carnegie and Wanderers.

St Andrews University complete their schedule, probably with a win over Harris and more than likely defeat at Carnegie, meaning fourth in the division is their most likely finish.

Perthshire do not play their last match until April 22 but could well find Strathclyde University have overtaken them at the top of Division 3. Victory over Cala Edinburgh is a near certainty, taking Strathclyde to 39 points along with Perthshire and most likely ahead on goal difference.

Perthshire’s last game is away to Erskine Stewarts Melville, when they will probably require a draw to win the title and gain promotion.

Monarchs have a real opportunity to collect six points as they face Stirling University and Highland. Even this would only move them up to sixth.
