Icy blast likely to be here for a few more days
Weather: Tayside and Fife hit by lower than average freezing temperatures
There was little sign of spring as Tayside and Fife woke yesterday to freezing temperatures and a dusting of snow in some areas.
And according to weather forecasters, it could get worse before it gets better due to wind chill.
A spokesman for the Met Office, said: “The wind chill means it won’t feel any warmer than zero.
“It snowed throughout Tayside, with the worst of the snow falling in Angus. The strong northerly winds kept the snow showers going.”
The Met Office spokesman said that the temperatures were considerably lower than the 12C average for the time of year.
He said: “We are seeing much lower temperatures than we would expect for the end of April going into May.”
Temperatures are expected to improve slowly today and return to a more spring-like level by tomorrow.
The Met Office spokesman said: “I’m hopeful that by the end of the week temperatures should be sitting at a much more pleasant 14C.”
“On April 28 last year, parts of Angus and Dundee had heavy snow showers, so although it has been cold this week, we have seen weather like this at this time plenty times in the past.”
The wintry blast could be felt across the UK with temperatures in Braemar, Aberdeenshire, dropping to as low as -4C.
Meanwhile snow flurries hit parts of the North of England and the Midlands.
Towns as far south as Norwich reported waking to a smattering of snow, with areas such as Staffordshire, Yorkshire and Lincolnshire also reporting wintry showers.
