Tangerines’ campaign ends with defeat

PARTICK THISTLE 4 DUNDEE UNITED 2

Despite scoring two late goals, United slumped to a disappointing defeat as the curtain came down on their league season at Airdrie.

There was a distinct end of season feel to proceedings for most of the first half.

Apart from a couple of Logan Chalmers efforts that were just off target, goalmouth action was at a premium.

Ironically, the Jags went ahead in their first real attack after 36 minutes.

Harvey Dailly was adjudged to have fouled Dakoya King at a corner and Neil McLaughlin converted the spot-kick.

United keeper Brett Long then did well to keep out a Matt McInally effort .

United opened the second half more brightly and only a fine Jack Livesey save prevented Chalmers levelling.

Against the run of play, Thistle doubled their lead, Mark Lamont scoring with a glancing header.

On 63 minutes, McLaughlin knocked in Lee Duncanson’s low driven cross for 3-0 and, after 74 minutes, McLaughlin dinked in the Jags’ fourth.

However, with 11 minutes left, Chalmers curled a shot into the top corner from just outside the penalty area and he scored his second with five minutes left, drilling home a low drive.

United: Long, Ritchie (Allan 46), Hornby, B Smith, Reekie, Davidson, Chalmers, Dailly, Garden (Robb 72), Appere, McMeekin.
