A Time to Live (BBC2, 9pm-10pm)

What would you do if you were told you had a terminal illness and may only have months to live? Many people would understand­ably react with fear, anger, depression or denial. But award-winning film-maker Sue Bourne set out to meet the people who have managed to find something positive in their prognosis and are determined to make the most of whatever time they have left. They include 69-year-old Kevin, who says he and his wife have experience­d some of the best times of their life since his diagnosis, and Annabel, who says that cancer gave her the confidence to grasp the life she wanted – which meant leaving her husband.

The Murder of Rhys Jones: What Happened Next (Channel 5, 10pm-11.05pm)

Isis: The Origin Of Violence (Channel 4, 9pm-10.35pm)

In this authored historical investigat­ion, historian Tom Holland traces the origins of Isis’s extreme violence, which it claims is justified by the tenets and scriptures of Islam. Travelling from Paris to Istanbul, and from Sinjar to Cairo, he examines the roots of Isis’s interpreta­tion of notions such as jihad.
