Trains severely disrupted after person hit on line in Edinburgh
Rail services were thrown into chaos after a person was hit by a train in Edinburgh.
Trains serving Fife, Perth and Dundee were delayed following the incident which was announced by operator ScotRail just after 9.30pm last night.
The casualty was struck on the line between Haymarket and South Gyle.
Travellers faced lengthy delays, with services cancelled to Inverkeithing and Kirkcaldy.
ScotRail said its services were severely disrupted, as all lines had closed between Haymarket and Inverkeithing.
Passengeres were warned disruption was expected to continue for the remainder of the evening.
ScotRail tweeted: “Sadly, due to a person being hit by a train between Haymarket and #Inverkeithing, services through these stations are disrupted.”
It said services between Edinburgh and Perth, Dundee and Aberdeen would be revised, with trains diverted where possible.
Replacement buses were expected to run from Edinburgh Waverley to Perth and Dundee at around 10.45pm.
At around 10.30pm ScotRail posted a further message apologising to passengers affected the line closure.
It read: “Services will be disrupted for the rest of the night I’m afraid. Sorry if your journey’s been affected tonight.”
