Relay for Life line-up announced

-

The organising committee of Arbroath Relay for Life has announced the line-up for this year’s opening ceremony.

Broadcast journalists Cheryl Paul and Louise Cowie will be joining Global Hero of Hope Joe Suckling from Derby to launch the 24-hour walking event on September 16.

Committee chairman Ian Angus said: “Cancer doesn’t respect any boundaries.

“It is something that impacts on families across the land regardless of geography, status or any other factor.

“We are delighted to welcome for the opening ceremony three well-known people who for their own personal reasons all understand the impact that cancer can have on families as well as individual members of our every community.

“Their support means a lot to us and hopefully locals will turn out in force on the day to give them a rousing welcome to Arbroath Relay.”

After hanging up her microphone recently, Cheryl now runs a small tourism business while Louise Cowie is a Dundeebased reporter and presenter with STV News.

Joe Suckling, a nuclear safety consultant, was given the honour of being selected to be a Global Hero of Hope by Cancer Research UK in 2013.

Mr Suckling now works to inspire others after battling two different cancers.

He said: “I had a miraculous recovery – I have used my story to inspire others and spread awareness and hope.”
