Support and advice is there

-

As the years move on, it may be time to come to terms with the fact we need some support, either to continue living in our own homes or perhaps make the move into sheltered accommodation or a care home.

Whatever the challenges, it is important to remember you are not alone, there are many organisations and companies out there who have the experience and expertise to help you to overcome any challenges you might face.

If you are keen to stay at home with the support of family or friends, try not to take on too much. Remember that there are great services out there to help with the everyday chores such as shopping, cooking and cleaning. Think about trying a home delivery service for your shopping – perhaps one of your children or grandchildren could help you to set up an account if you feel nervous about trying it for the first time.

Another very popular option is a meal delivery service, completely taking the stress out of shopping and cooking meals. There are some wonderful local companies who offer a wide selection of dishes which come delivered direct to your door by friendly drivers. All the old favourites are catered for, as are more exotic dishes and any special dietary requirements that you might have.

If you have the budget, you might like to consider having a cleaner to come in to help with those little jobs around the house that can seem overwhelming, or why not use a laundry service to take the stress out of the washing and ironing.

Of course, the implications of getting older can be much more than just the physical side of getting jobs done, sometimes the emotional challenges can be even more difficult to overcome. Perhaps you are finding it hard to cope with feelings of loneliness and isolation or just need to get out of the house more. It can be difficult to reach out for help but there are many caring and community organisations out there who can help you to
