Exams breakdown expected to reveal impressive results
Early reports show that Angus pupils have put in another strong exams performance.
Pupils received their results earlier this month and schools will receive a more detailed picture of the county’s performance in the middle of September.
However, initial indications are that Angus pupils have continued to punch above their weight compared to the national average.
Angus Council’s children and learning convener Councillor Mark Salmond praised the efforts of pupils and teachers.
He said: “Early indications are that overall Angus has maintained recent improvements in attainment.
“Schools will receive more detailed information in midSeptember which will recognise all of the achievements including the SQA results.
“A report will come to committee in due course focused on the achievements of our school leavers in line with national expectations to focus on the end point of young people’s school journey.”
Exam results in Angus have steadily improved over the past three years, with 33% of pupils achieving three Highers last year compared to 26% in 2013-14.
Some 16% of pupils achieved five Highers in fifth year compared to 11% in 2013-14.
Head of schools and learning Dr Pauline Stephen said the positive trend has continued this year.
“School leavers in Angus do better than the national average and virtual comparators in terms of literacy and numeracy. We are also outperforming in post school destinations – 95% of our young people went on to a positive destination which is the highest on record in Angus.”
