Officers are growing increasingly concerned for 48-year-old Anthony Kelbie, who was last seen in the Angus town.
Police, supported by specialist search officers and a police dog and handler, went door-to-door near his Dundee home and probed areas where he had been seen at the weekend, the Nursery Park area of Brechin.
Mr Kelbie, who lives in the Maryfield area of Dundee, was last seen between 8 and 10pm on Saturday and was reported missing the following day.
When last seen, he was wearing a blue Superdry jacket, blue jeans and white shoes.
He has noticeable cuts to the side of his head and a lump and cut on his forehead.
Inspector Alice Coventry said: “It is really unusual for Anthony not to be in touch with family or friends for this length of time and we are becoming increasingly concerned for his wellbeing.
“We know Anthony was in the Nursery Park area of Brechin on Saturday evening and we are urging anyone who thinks they saw a man matching his description to get in touch with us.
“He may also have travelled to Dundee or possibly to Aberdeenshire and we are asking anyone who has information that could assist to contact us.”
