A Dundee dance troupe hopes to star at a world championship event in Glasgow.

Dozens of street dancers from Lochee-based Addicted 2 Dance will battle it out against movers and shakers from across the world.

Homegrown competitors aged between seven and 21 will compete for the right to be called world champion in their respective age group.

Among those competing is reigning world champion Ferne Nisbet, 10.

Ferne and Ava Hogan, 11, defeated dozens of international competitors at a contest held in Glasgow last August.

The talented young duo saw off young dancers from Korea, Germany and Ireland to claim top spot in the under 12 age group.

Though Ava is unable to attend due to a family engagement, Ferne is hoping to enjoy success again, this time in the under-14 group. Ava’s mum Laura, who runs the dance studio where the team train, said she is hopeful competitors in every age group can compete.

Laura said: “Ferne is dancing solo and also with my niece, Abbie, in a battle to win again. All the kids are doing solos and duos.

“I’m excited for them, all the kids have trained so hard. They’ve trained for the last six weeks over the summer and have been in the studio for two weeks nonstop.

“At the end of the day, we go to enjoy ourselves, if we don’t get anything then that is fine.

“But they have worked really hard, so hopefully they will do really well.”

Laura continued: “This is the strongest our teams have ever been but, like I say, this is the world championships and every team is strong.

“They have all trained exceptionally hard and have done all they can. What will be will be.

“Winning is nice, but we’re just going to perform at our best. Anything on top of that is a bonus.”

The UDO Street Dance World Championships take place from tomorrow until Sunday in both the SECC and Armadillo in Glasgow.
