Safety improvements looked at for A92 sites
Safety moves are being considered for three accident blackspots on the Angus stretch of the A92, the local MP has revealed
Kirstene Hair said the road from Monifieth to Montrose was still too dangerous, despite a number of improvements at accident-heavy locations.
The Conservative MP for Angus researched the number of crashes as part of a campaign to make the road safer for her constituents.
A Freedom of Information request to Police Scotland found the A92 has been the scene of two fatal and 14 non-fatal accidents in the last three years.
The MP has now been told by Angus Council’s chief executive that three points on the road – the bend at Parkhill Road outside Arbroath, Inverkeilor rail bridge, and Rossie Mill junction near Montrose – are on the council’s accident improvement plan (AIP) to be considered next year.
Ms Hair said: “The rail bridge and Parkhill Road bend have both had improvements made in the last two years, but the data on A92 show little variation in the number of accidents in the last few years.
“My constituents tell me about their concerns over road safety, particularly between Montrose and Arbroath, and I am hopeful the council will be able to address this information in next year’s strategy.”
Council chief executive Margo Williamson wrote to Ms Hair stating: “The report to go to committee in 2018 will highlight the three sites on the A92 and will advise the committee on any further mitigation measures proposed.
“Investigations are currently under way for potential options.
“It is important, particularly in light of current and future budget restraints, that future road safety schemes at identified road traffic accident cluster sites will continue to be prioritised on the severity of accidents, and the AIP provides the most appropriate means to do this.”
Ms Hair said she did not want to see any more accidents at these points, now their dangers were clear.
