The game’s not over for Frank’s Law

-

She nursed her husband through a particularly cruel and debilitating illness – made all the more difficult by his diagnosis at a younger age than most patients and the denial of the free personal care that would have been available to an older person.

Amanda Kopel could have been forgiven for taking some time to herself after Dundee United legend Frank died in 2014 after a six-year battle with dementia.

But this lady was made of sterner stuff.

Amanda made a promise to her husband that she would fight on for his goal of securing personal care for the under-65s, and fight she did.

The Kirriemuir force of nature swept up droves of supporters along the way, including this paper which fully backed her Frank’s Law campaign.

And when the Scottish Government announced in September that it would be extending personal care provision to people with degenerative conditions under the age of 65, many cheered her dedication and devotion.

She is not a woman who sought the spotlight, but Amanda had better get used to it. Having already collected a Great Scot award, she was named Public Campaigner of the Year at this week’s Scottish Political Awards and next month she and The Courier are in the running for Campaign of the Year at the British Journalism Awards.

Enjoy these moments of glory Amanda, you did your husband proud.
