Unpaid work for domestic abuser

-

An Angus man with a history of domestic problems has been ordered to carry out unpaid work after assaulting his partner.

Graham Wood, 53, of Montquhir Farm Cottage, Arbroath, was ordered to complete 120 hours after he was convicted of assaulting and threatening the woman.

The attack happened on November 11 after an afternoon and evening of drinking when the couple returned to Wood’s home and began arguing.

Forfar Sheriff Court heard Wood embarked on a “tirade” then grabbed the woman by the head and pushed her as she was sitting on a kitchen chair, causing her to fall backwards on to the floor.

When he went outside for a cigarette the victim called the police.

When officers arrived at the scene, Wood told them: “I did not hit her”.

The woman was not seriously injured as a result of the incident.

Wood’s defence solicitor said his client has previous convictions, which are “analogous”.

Sentencing him, Sheriff Jillian Martin-brown said: “I am concerned by the issues raised in the social work report.

“There is a history of domestic problems.”

Wood was told he must complete the unpaid work element of the community payback order within a year.

He was also placed on supervision for two years and told not to approach his victim.
