Shaper/caper lands lottery boost
Angus and Aberdeenshire young people will feel the benefit of a large lottery windfall for Dundee-based dance company and charity Shaper/ Caper.
The £46,736 award from the Big Lottery’s Young Start fund will allow Shaper/caper to build upon the success of its programmes with young people, including a Well Good project partnership with NHS Tayside that visits 115 primary schools a year.
The group also runs popular A Day to Play performance workshops at the Mcmanus museum in the city, where children are encouraged to play creatively with their families.
The latest funding will go towards a new two-year project, Ctrl Shift, which will allow young people to explore dance, digital and creative skills while engaging in physical theatre, film, photography and animation.
Big Lottery Fund Scotland chairwoman Maureen Mcginn said: “Young Start helps Scotland’s next generation unlock their talents through a wide range of activities.
“These are designed to engage and inspire young people, and ensure they have the best possible start in life.”
As well as presenting a host of touring productions, Shaper/ Caper’s ambitious dance projects include LOVE/LIFE, a programme that takes dance to care homes across Tayside and the Pow Wow project for children in parts of Dundee.
