Cummings makes his mark for Rangers

ROSS COUNTY 1 RANGERS 2

Jason Cummings came off the bench to score his first Rangers goal and seal his new club’s 2-1 win over Ross County in Dingwall.

Graeme Murty’s men were ahead midway through the first period thanks to Daniel Candeias’ strike but, despite dominating the possession stats for large spells, the visitors found chances hard to come by.

That was until former Hibernian striker Cummings – now on loan at Ibrox from Nottingham Forest – made his mark five minutes after replacing Alfredo Morelos as he fired the winner to move Rangers back up to second place.

County did pull one back through David Ngog’s late spot-kick after Russell Martin conceded a penalty for a harsh handball call.

New Rangers signings Greg Docherty and Cummings were introduced as substitutes and helped give the Glaswegian side a fresh lease of life.

Cummings grabbed the crucial second with eight minutes left as he drove forward and beat Aaron Mccarey from the edge of the area, sparking a small pitch invasion.

Ross County: Mccarey, Naismith, Fraser, Soutar, van der Weg, Routis (Chow 9), Gardyne, Draper, O’brien, Keillor-dunn (Schalk 78), Curran (Ngog 55); unused subs – Mckay, Effiong, Fox, Dingwall. Rangers: Foderingham, Tavernier, Martin, Bates, John, Goss (Docherty 74), Holt, Candeias (Halliday 84), Windass, Murphy, Morelos (Cummings 79); unused subs – Fabio Cardoso, Herrera, Kranjcar, Alnwick.

Hearts lost their clean sheet record in dramatic circumstances as Motherwell striker Curtis Main equalised in the sixth minute of stoppage time at Tynecastle.

The hosts were seconds away from a ninth consecutive clean sheet but Motherwell scrambled the ball over the line after Craig Tanner’s free-kick to secure a 1-1 draw.

Jon Mclaughlin stopped Main’s header but the ball was over the line when Steven Naismith cleared and referee Willie Collum gave the goal on the advice of his assistant.
