COWDENBEATH 1 BERWICK RANGERS 3

Nine points adrift at the foot of the Ladbrokes League 2 table after this defeat, Cowdenbeath manager Gary Bollan is looking for a vast improvement in Wednesday night’s rearranged game with Stirling Albion.

Saturday’s performance against Beriwck Rangers was described by Bollan as ‘the worst since I arrived’ and, with Edinburgh City and Clyde both winning, the Blue Brazil need three points at Forthbank.

Cowden had big problems adjusting to the very blustery

conditions at Central Park on Saturday but, as Bollan pointed out, Berwick were able to play some decent football in the gale.

Rangers took the lead on 18 minutes when Jack Hamilton headed in Steven Thomson’s cross.

Despite playing poorly, Cowden levelled on the interval whistle when Blair Malcolm was fouled in the box and Harvey Swann converted the spot-kick.

But within eight minutes of the second period Thomson’s 30-yard rocket put Berwick ahead again.

Ousman See finished things off with a close in header with seven minutes to go.

Bollan said: “We simply did not compete like we have been in recent matches and we have to go out and fight for every scrap of possession against Albion.

“We have been slack in the last two games and it has cost us points and we must really get our act together.”
