End of inpatient admissions at Montrose Infirmary
Inpatient beds at Montrose Infirmary will be axed within the month.
Angus Health and Social Care Partnership confirmed yesterday that, from March 19, there will be no new admissions.
Last month the Integration Joint Board (IJB) for Angus Health and Social Care Partnership agreed a new care model, developed by clinicians in partnership with staff and stakeholders, which will provide sustainable, safe and effective person-centred care for the future.
Inpatient care for stroke, Psychiatry of Old Age, Medicine for the Elderly, and palliative care services will be delivered from Stracathro Hospital, Whitehills Health and Community Care Centre in Forfar and Arbroath Infirmary.
The plans also involve Brechin Infirmary, which has been non-operational since October 2015.
Any patient in Montrose Infirmary admitted before March 19 will continue to be cared for until their discharge can be arranged.
Gail Smith, head of community health and care services for Angus Health and Social Care Partnership, said: “The agreed model will result in a reduction in the number of inpatient beds required across Angus, which will be supplemented by a minimum of three care home beds to support intermediate and palliative care in north east Angus.
“This will build on services already available in Angus and plans for intermediate care will be developed in partnership with local clinicians.
“We are working closely with staff and arrangements are in place to discuss future options in the care model with staff.”
