Village event will examine prospect of transport scheme
Ways to tackle transport problems in an Angus village will be up for discussion this week.
A community transport information evening will be held in the community lounge at Friockheim Primary School on Thursday from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
Friockheim Community Hub Ltd (Friockhub) said it is aware that a lack of accessible transport is an issue for many people in the village.
Thursday’s event will feature presentations and discussions from Community Transport Scotland, who will explain what needs to be considered when setting up a community transport scheme.
Also, a local community transport group which has successfully set up a scheme will tell of its experiences and there will be information from Voluntary Action Angus about its volunteer driver scheme.
A spokesperson for Friockhub said: “The event will offer a perfect opportunity for individuals and groups to begin talking about whether a community transport scheme can be developed.
“Friockhub has already begun it own journey towards a possible community transport scheme for Friockheim by securing funding from the Energy Saving Trust to install two electric car charging points in the redeveloped Eastgate Primary School.
“On its targeted opening in the autumn of this year, this aims to become a vibrant community hub that local people will manage and own.”
Arbroath West and Letham Lib Dem councillor Richard Moore said: “Angus Council is engaging in a consultation about the unmet need for accessible taxis.”
