Round-up of criminal cases before Sheriff Martin-brown

-

A Kirriemuir man has been banned from the road and given unpaid work for a string of offences.

Philip Moreton of Sidlaw Range appeared for sentence before Sheriff Jillian Martinbrown at Forfar, having previously admitted crimes including the theft of wooden battens from a property in Glen Prosen in November 2016, breaching bail and, in July last year, driving while disqualified and without insurance near Kirrie.

Defence solicitor Billy Rennie said the 32-year-old had stayed out of trouble for some years and was hoping to regain employment offshore.

Moreton was disqualified from driving for six months and must complete 120 hours of unpaid work within 18 months.

Also at Forfar: Romaine Wharton, 26, of Provost Crescent, Larkhall, had sentence deferred until April 26 for a personal appearance after admitting a charge of damaging a vehicle by throwing a brick at it in Inveraldie Crescent, Inveraldie, on June 20 last year.

Daniel Tait, 22, of Hillhead Terrace, Kirriemuir, was placed on a year-long community payback order with supervision, having previously admitted behaving in a threatening manner towards his partner at a house on Prosen Road on December 5 last year.

Kestutis Svanas, 36, of Prior Road, Forfar, was banned from driving for a year and ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work after previously admitting failing to co-operate with a breath test procedure on Dundee Loan, Forfar, on October 28 last year and failing to provide a specimen of breath on the same date. Svanas was also found guilty after trial of making a racially-aggravated remark towards a police officer. Wee Sing music sessions are to return to Forfar Community Campus from May 10 to introduce P3 youngsters to singing through musical games.

The free project is run by the National Youth Choir of Scotland.

Wee Sing Angus leader Aimee Toshney said: “Music making is a fantastic way for children to build confidence and develop socially. Wee Sing introduces children to the building blocks of music whilst meeting new friends and having lots of fun.”
