Montrose man fined over assault and making threats to kill

-

An Angus man has been fined after a sheriff revoked a previous community payback order for offences against his partner.

Thomas Mcneil, 29, of Palmerston Street, Montrose, previously admitted two charges and was ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work.

The court heard he had been unable to carry out any of the hours imposed at the end of last year as he was on a waiting list.

Depute fiscal Jill Drummond told the court Mcneil had been drinking with his partner on December 17 2016 in Montrose.

In the early hours she told him she was going to see a friend, who he later discovered was her ex-partner.

When she returned home the accused awoke and went through her mobile phone.

“He pinned her on the bed by her shoulders and she screamed for someone to call the police.

“He tipped out the contents of her handbag, took her keys and phone and said he would kill her and her ex-partner.”

The accused then got a knife from the kitchen, went to the bathroom, locked the door and said he was going to kill himself.

Ms Drummond continued: “He told her to get an ambulance. He then came out and said, ‘let’s have a drink, things are fine’.”

Mcneil previously admitted assaulting his partner, holding her down on a bed, grabbing her by the collar of her nightdress and dragging her around the house on December 18 2016 in a flat in Montrose, as well as breaching the peace and making threats to kill another person.

Sheriff Michael Fletcher revoked the CPO and fined Mcneil £300.
