Accident: Casualty taken by air ambulance after crash between car and lorry
One person was airlifted to hospital after a road crash involving a lorry and a car on the A9.
The casualty was taken by air ambulance to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow after the accident one mile from the Shell service station at Balhaldie yesterday.
Last night, the condition of the casualty was unknown.
However, police were describing the incident as “serious”.
The collision happened just before 1pm on the southbound carriageway.
Emergency services including ambulance crews, firefighters and a trauma team rushed to the scene.
It is understood the northbound carriageway was closed for a relatively short period before being reopened.
The southbound carriageway remained closed until after the evening rush hour.
Motorists were caught in tailbacks as the A9 was closed at Broxden roundabout in Perth.
Traffic was diverted to the Edinburghbound M90 and drivers were advised to avoid the area.
A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We dispatched two ambulance crews, a helicopter, our trauma team and two special operations vehicles to the scene and one patient was transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow.”
Police are appealing for witnesses and have urged anyone with information to contact 101, quoting incident number 1704 of June 12.
Inspector Andrew Thomson from Police Scotland’s road policing unit in Stirling said: “Our collision investigation is likely to be ongoing for a number of hours and the southbound carriageway is closed, which has also allowed the air ambulance helicopter to land.
“As such, drivers should look to utilise Broxden and travel south via the M90, rather than the A9.
“We are working to establish the full circumstances of this incident and anyone who was on the road at the time and witnessed what happened should contact police immediately.”
