Changes in a number of senior roles under new administra­tion

The appointmen­t of a new leader of the administra­tion on Angus Council has been accompanie­d by changes in some senior roles.

As administra­tion leader, Arbroath West and Letham Independen­t councillor David Fairweathe­r also becomes leader of the council.

Mr Fairweathe­r has also been named policy and resources committee convener, taking the helm from Brechin and Edzell Independen­t councillor Bob Myles.

Arbroath East and Lunan Conservati­ve councillor Derek Wann has been promoted from vice-convener to convener of children and learning, replacing Montrose and district Independen­t councillor Mark Salmond.

Arbroath East and Lunan Independen­t councillor Lois Speed is vice-convener of children and learning, and will also become spokeswoma­n for social care.

Mr Salmond retains a convener’s role, but this time at the helm of the communitie­s committee, where he will also have special responsibi­lity for the disposal of properties.

Monifieth and Sidlaw Conservati­ve councillor Craig Fotherhing­am will have special responsibi­lity for housing.

Fellow Montrose and district Independen­t councillor Tommy Stewart has been promoted to vice-convener of communitie­s, replacing Councillor Lois Speed.

Kirriemuir and Dean Conservati­ve councillor Ronnie Proctor remains as provost, with Forfar and District Independen­t councillor Colin Brown staying on as depute provost.

Mr Wann has submitted his resignatio­n as non-executive director on the Tayside NHS Board, with former council leader Bob Myles earmarked for the role.

The leader of the council attracts a salary of £33,991, while conveners receive £22,943 and vice-conveners £19,969.

The salary for a basic councillor is £16,994, bringing Angus Council’s total salary bill for elected members to £698,309 before expenses.
