Changes in a number of senior roles under new administration
The appointment of a new leader of the administration on Angus Council has been accompanied by changes in some senior roles.
As administration leader, Arbroath West and Letham Independent councillor David Fairweather also becomes leader of the council.
Mr Fairweather has also been named policy and resources committee convener, taking the helm from Brechin and Edzell Independent councillor Bob Myles.
Arbroath East and Lunan Conservative councillor Derek Wann has been promoted from vice-convener to convener of children and learning, replacing Montrose and district Independent councillor Mark Salmond.
Arbroath East and Lunan Independent councillor Lois Speed is vice-convener of children and learning, and will also become spokeswoman for social care.
Mr Salmond retains a convener’s role, but this time at the helm of the communities committee, where he will also have special responsibility for the disposal of properties.
Monifieth and Sidlaw Conservative councillor Craig Fotherhingam will have special responsibility for housing.
Fellow Montrose and district Independent councillor Tommy Stewart has been promoted to vice-convener of communities, replacing Councillor Lois Speed.
Kirriemuir and Dean Conservative councillor Ronnie Proctor remains as provost, with Forfar and District Independent councillor Colin Brown staying on as depute provost.
Mr Wann has submitted his resignation as non-executive director on the Tayside NHS Board, with former council leader Bob Myles earmarked for the role.
The leader of the council attracts a salary of £33,991, while conveners receive £22,943 and vice-conveners £19,969.
The salary for a basic councillor is £16,994, bringing Angus Council’s total salary bill for elected members to £698,309 before expenses.
