Police advice in hot spell

-

Police are urging householders in Angus to maintain tight home security amid the recent spell of warm weather.

Police Tayside Division say leaving windows or doors open or unlocked in summer can tempt would-be criminals.

They say electrical items such as televisions, games consoles, tablet computers and mobile telephones are particularly attractive to criminals.

Inspector Chris Boath from Longhaugh community policing team has urged householders throughout Tayside to be vigilant.

He said: “Remember, open doors and windows present opportunities and opportunities lead to crime.

“This advice does not mean do not open windows, just remember to close and lock them when leaving your home unoccupied.

“If you are going out and you have a house alarm remember to set it and lock doors and windows when you leave. Remember to secure garages and sheds and keep valuable items out of sight.

“Consider the information that you post on social media.

“If you advertise that your home is unoccupied beware.

“If you are going on holiday for example, it can be an open invitation for opportunistic thieves.

“Importantly, we ask that you look out for your neighbours.

“And please report any persons who are seen acting suspiciously in or around houses and gardens.”
