North-east breeders gain champion prize

-

Charollais sheep sold to a top of 22,000gn at the breed’s national sale in Worcester.

The sale topper was a ram lamb – Ffrwd Top Notch by Edstaston Sotogrande – from Anglesey breeder Dewi Evans, selling to David Roberts, Shropshire, and Jonathan and Janett Corbett, Gloucestershire.

North-east breeders Gregor and Bruce Ingram of Logie Durno Farm, Pitcaple, Inverurie, secured the overall champion prize at the pre-sale show with a ram lamb named Loanhead Trademark, by Hollylodge Supreme. He sold for 9,500gn to Kenny and Sheila Malcomson, Northern Ireland. The brothers also sold two other ram lambs by the same sire – Loanhead Titan for 2,400gn to Abbie Moseley, Shropshire, and Loanhead Top Gun for 2,500gn to Drew and Stephen Cowan, Northern Ireland.

Their success continued in the shearling ram section when they took the champion prize with Loanhead Saxon, by Wernfawr Red Bull. He sold for 2,100gn to Gwynn and Jeannette Williams, Brecon. Another Loanhead shearling – Loanhead Sterling, by Rhaeadr Orlando – sold for 2,000gn to German buyer Volken Derbisz.

Meanwhile, the brothers’ parents – William and Carole – paid 5,800gn for a ram lamb Dalby Tuilagi, by Dalby Ranieri, from Charles Sercombe’s Leicestershire flock.

In the female section a top price of 1,900gn was paid for a ewe from the Ingram family’s Logie Durno flock. By Wernfawr Red Bull, and first at the Highland as a ewe lamb, she sold to Lawrence Buckland.
