Flyers see off Bulldogs after Pirates’ raid on Kirkcaldy

-

Fife Flyers recovered from Saturday’s defeat by Aalborg Pirates to beat Odense Bulldogs 2-1 last night in a four nations tournament at Fife Ice Arena.

Chase Schaber gave the hosts the lead in the opening period and Paul Crowder stretched the lead before the second buzzer. Bulldogs scored in the third but Flyers held on.

Mike Cazzola had provided Fife fans with their only reason to celebrate on Saturday as their favourites were dumped 4-1 at home by Danish side Aalborg.

The former Edinburgh Capitals skipper scored after 30 minutes to make the score 2-1 after a hard-fought, goalless opening session.

Pirates’ goals came from Thomas Spellman, Victor Panelin-borg, David Friedmann and Martin Hojberg to leave Flyers reflecting on their second pre-season reverse after the 2-1 defeat by Manitoba Bisons on Thursday.

Lewis Gold netted with one second left of sudden-death overtime to hand Dundee Comets victory in the two-leg Caledonia Cup over Murrayfield Racers, back on the ice after more than 20 years and with Tony Hand in charge.

Comets, beaten 6-3 in Dundee on Saturday, won 5-3 at Murrayfield last night to send the game into overtime.

Man of the match Gold took advantage of a rebound from home netminder Craig Mallinson to win the game.

Glasgow Clan beat Norway’s Stavanger Oilers 2-1 last night after losing 5-4 in overtime to Hungarian champions MAC Budapest on Saturday.
