Strachan hits 81 as Falkland end league season unbeaten

-

The two teams who have dominated the Strathmore and Perthshire NEC all season finished with big wins on Saturday and huge credit must go to Falkland for going through the season unbeaten with Stoneywood Dyce taking second spot.

Falkland rattled up 228-7 against Forfarshire 2nds with Ben Strachan cracking an unbeaten 81.

Only Richard Rennie showed any resistance to the Falkland attack with 47 as Darren Pearce took 3-28 to see the home side home by 99 runs.

With Stoneywood Dyce going into the play-off against Kelso having clinched that second place, they got the confidence boosting win they were looking for with a huge 166-run demolition of Strathmore.

Liam Lindsay and Ewan Davidson had half centuries with 58 and 52 respectively then George Ninan and Rob Kennard set about the Strathmore batsmen.

It only took them 17 overs to get all the Strathie batsmen back in the pavilion for 72, Ninan taking 4-13 and Kennard 4-28.

Meigle finished a respectable third in the table after overtaking the 176 target set by Mannofield with eight wickets to spare,

At the close, Shahzeed Saeed and Raju Gayashan were still at the crease, each with 56 as Meigle passed the target with more than three overs to spare.

There have been some low scoring games in the league this season but when Perth Doo’cot managed to reach only 89 in less than 30 overs, it looked as though it was all over with another pair of small totals.

Dundee HSFP ended a pretty miserable league campaign with a disastrous innings which saw them all out for 59 with Rizwan Akbar on deadly form as he collected a remarkable 8-17 to consign Dundee to third bottom.

Arbroath finally had something to celebrate as they notched their fourth league success with an 81 run win against Gordonians at Countesswells.

Arbroath reached 232 for six with Greig Peal hitting 69 and Ben O’mara supporting with 39.

Aman Arora had 96 of Gordonians’ 151 while Craig Ross was top man with the ball with 3-23 for Arbroath
