Lochee run riot as they sweep aside poor Kirrie

JUNIORS: Leaders put eight past Thistle to maintain 100% start

- PETER RUNDO

Super League leaders Lochee United ran riot at Westview as they trounced Kirrie Thistle 8-0 to maintain their 100% start.

Strikes from Greg Kirk and Scott Mccomiskie saw them two up inside eight minutes with Grant Lawson adding a third after 20 minutes.

Bryan Deasley and Mccomiskie again took the interval tally to five.

Sandwiched between two Lawson goals to complete his hat-trick, Dougie Cameron scored from the spot.

Broughty Athletic’s unblemished start continued with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Tayport at Whitton Park.

The decisive goal came in the second half when Derryn Kesson cut in from the right and played a beautiful through ball for Paul Mclellan to calmly round the keeper and slide the ball home from a tight angle.

A Chris Ireland goal after only two minutes earned Thornton Hibs the bragging rights in their Fife derby at Kennoway.

Scoring what proved to be the only goal of the game was the perfect way for the striker to celebrate his 200th appearance and took his Hibs tally to 97.

Downfield got the better of Carnoustie Panmure thanks to the only goal of the game, despite having to play the final 30 minutes with 10 men.

Ross Gallagher’s precision chip on 48 minutes proved to be the winner.

The Spiders were reduced to 10 men, for handball in the box, with an hour gone. However, on a disappointing afternoon for the Gowfers, they failed to capitalise on the resultant penalty, Sam Simpson’s spot-kick being saved by keeper Darren Clarkson.

Forfar West End went down 3-2 at Fauldhouse United to lose for the second week running.

Jamie Montgomery had put the Angus side in front, but a three-goal blitz in 10 minutes midway through the half gave the hosts a two-goal interval advantage.

Montgomery was on target again early in the second half, but despite having chances to level, the visitors failed to take them.

Glenrothes relinquished a two-goal lead at Whitburn and had to be satisfied with a point in the end.

Goals from Lee Celentano and Graeme Walker had given the Glens that two-goal advantage, but the home side fought back to draw.

The North League game of the day between Kinnoull and leaders North End ended goalless.

It was a very tight contest in which the Dokens had the greater possession, but the Perth side always looked a threat, so in the end a draw was probably a fair outcome.

That result enabled East Craigie – now the only side with a 100% record – to go top of the table after a 3-1 win away to city neighbours Violet.

Nik Mann with a brace and Aiden Benvie were on target for the Shipbuilders with Sean Tucker getting the Pansies’ counter.

Scone Thistle boss Derek Lawson rated the 2-0 win at Blairgowrie as their best performance of the season.

The goals arrived late on though, Sean Whitworth’s opener from the penalty spot came after 71 minutes with Max Avolio firing home the second six minutes from time.

The battles of the Vics at Ogilvy Park produced the highest scoring encounter with Brechin beating their Arbroath hosts 7-4.

Mike Fotheringham gave the home side the lead after just 43 seconds.

Brechin blazed back through Liam Bailly, a double from Rikki Gillespie and another from Arron Stephen before Fotheringham pulled one back, only for Bailly to make it 5-2.

Craig Tosh reduced the leeway, but Bruce Hearn increased Brechin’s lead to 6-3 in 53 minutes before Fotheringham completed his hat-trick.

Euan Duff completed the scoring with the visitors’ seventh.

Lochee Harp showed bottom club Coupar Angus no mercy at Foxhall Park by battering the hosts 9-1.

Sam Mcdonald took the scoring honours with four goals, while Aaron Conway and Liam Roddy both hit doubles and Jay Smart got the other.

There was a high-scoring win for Luncarty at Forfar Albion, the Bleachers scoring seven without reply.

Four-goal Tony Holt was their main man in the scoring stakes with Fraser Mills, Stuart Nicol and Richard Doig the others on target.

Under manager Craig Ness, the feelgood factor is definitely returning at Denfield Park where Kirkcaldy YM’S 3-1 win over Lochgelly Albert was their third in a row to take them up to second in the South League table.

Three goals in the first quarter of the game dictated the outcome and these came from Jason Nouri and a Daryl Anthony double.

Meanwhile, Newburgh are also enjoying a better season and were convincing 3-0 winners over bottom cub Rosyth at East Shore Park.

A Jamie Gay double and a Scott Sutherland strike counted for Burgh.

Lochore Welfare twice had to come from behind to earn a share of the spoils in a six-goal thriller at home to Harthill.

Joe Kinnonmonth opened the scoring, but that was the only time Welfare led and Sean Johnstone twice cancelled out goals after the visitors had gone in front.
