Dods’ delight as City come from behind to grab win

LEAGUE ONE: Brechin gain ‘revenge’ on Sons thanks to Melingui’s last-gasp goal

-

“We must keep our momentum going. I would like to get a couple of players in, if I can. I had a couple of deals near completion last week, but they fell through.

“In my time as manager we have never won from 2-0 down. It was great to get some revenge on Dumbarton as they beat us four times last season.

“The result will give my players confidence. They now know they have it in them to score three times in half-an-hour against an experienced back four.”

Dumbarton came to Glebe Park with five ex-brechin players in their ranks and one of them gave them the lead on 18 minutes.

A corner fell to Bobby Barr on the far post and he scored with a curling chip into the top corner.

Brechin went close on 43 minutes when Andy Jackson jinked past three players on the edge of the box and his shot was saved by Grant Adam.

On 56 minutes, Brechin did everything but score when Melingui twice and Dougie Hill had shots blocked in a frantic scramble.

Dumbarton went straight upfield and trialist midfielder Brad Spencer, son of ex-rangers man John, smashed a shot home from the edge of the box.

Brechin gritted their teeth and on 59 minutes, Melingui turned superbly on a Kalvin Orsi pass and fired home a low shot.

On 64 minutes, Hill dived to meet a Tapping corner and his header rebounded off the post.

Brechin made it 2-2 on 77 minutes. Orsi crossed from the right and Tapping beat a defender before scoring.

The home side went for all three points and got their reward in the third minute of added time.

A passing move took the ball the length of the pitch and Melingui had a shot blocked by the keeper before squeezing home the rebound.
