Saints posing real threat after good-move signings

-

Saturday’s game may only have been the third Premiership fixture of the season but St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright admitted it was still a relief to secure that vital first victory.

Dundee started well at Mcdiarmid, moving the ball about crisply but Saints arguably had the better chances in the first half.

They finally capitalised on one of their opportunities after the break with Tony Watt netting his sixth goal of the campaign.

The striker made all the headlines once more and it is becoming increasingly apparent that Wright has won the proverbial watch with his acquisition of the former Celtic frontman. However, it was another summer signing, winger Matty Kennedy, who really caught my eye.

The 23-year-old admits he has yet to hit full fitness but he looks like another excellent addition to the St Johnstone squad. Certainly in Watt, Kennedy and the other winger Drey Wright, Saints look like posing a real threat going forward this season.

As for Dundee ... they continue to be easy on the eye at times but they need points more than plaudits at the moment. Kennedy himself summed up the Dark Blues when he said: “We knew how they would play. We knew they would have more possession than us but we worked hard in training on our shape and they didn’t really create anything. We stopped them creating the big chances.”

Dundee boss Neil Mccann somehow has to work out a way for his team to conjure up those big opportunities to make them a more potent threat in the final third – and he needs to do it quickly.
