Centres of excellence: Region perfect place to learn and prosper

Embarking on university and college life is an exciting time. Here, we catch up with student representatives who are well placed to reveal why Courier Country is an ideal place to combine living and learning

- ABERTAY UNIVERSITY STUDENT PRESIDENT TAM WILSON

“Hello, freshers, and welcome to Abertay! And to those who are new to the city, welcome to Dundee!

Five years ago I was in the same position as you – an excited but nervous fresher not knowing what to expect.

“I have since discovered that university is about much more than attaining a degree, it’s about gaining experience, growing as a person and learning who you really are.

Abertay has a proud history of supporting students from a diverse range of backgrounds and circumstances.

This diversity is one of Abertay’s greatest strengths. Utilise this wealth of experience that surrounds you as an opportunity to broaden your horizons and know that there is always support there for you. Dundee is a great city with a great community that goes much further than just the waterfront.

Here are just some of the reasons why Abertay is a top establishment:

1 Abertay offers a welcoming and friendly campus with a family feel.

With just 4,000 students in total, our freshers quickly get to know one another and our friendly academics and support staff are always happy to help.

2 What a year for Dundee! The amazing V&A Dundee Museum opens on September 15 and the city is already buzzing with excitement.

With two universities and a large college, Dundee is a true student city and there’s never been a better time to study here.

3 We are the Top Modern University in Scotland (Guardian University Guide 2019) and the No 1 in Europe for computer games.

And with more than 95% of our graduates going straight into employment or further study within six months, we let the figures speak for themselves.

4 We offer an accelerated degree option for many of our courses, shaving a year off the time it takes to gain an undergraduate qualification.

It’s a great opportunity for students keen to fast-track their career path and allows them to get into the jobs market a year ahead of their peers.

5 This year’s freshers will be the first to benefit from our newly completed £4m library renovation, which has improved layout, connectivity and service.

The modern new facility adds to our Centre for Excellence for computer games, refurbished £3.5m science labs and our cutting-edge Collaborative Learning Suite – all ideally designed for the millennial generation.
