£1.4m raised at auction

A PhD thesis and a wheelchair were among a selection of items belonging to Professor Stephen Hawking that have sold for nearly £1.4 million at a Christie’s auction.

The paper, submitted by the late theoretical physicist as a Cambridge University graduate student in 1965, was snapped up for £584,750.
