Back-to-back wins offer hope to Oakley
Oakley United are still a fair way off the top six in the Central Taxis East of Scotland League Conference A but their upturn in form under Stewart Kenny is putting them in with a chance.
Last weekend’s win at Tweedmouth was followed by a 2-0 victory at Hawick Royal Albert. Both goals came from James Mcateer
Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts have seen a drastic improvement in form under Lee Duffy but that came to an end at Paties Road Stadium against 10man Edinburgh United in Conference C.
The home side led 2-0 after 25 minutes though goals from Daniel Mckinlay and Gabriel Auriemma but Scott Russell pulled a goal back on 33 minutes and Swifts were further boosted by a red card for Taylor Hendry two minutes later.
Jack Easton levelled things up just before the interval when he equalised in stoppage time.
Both sides had chances to win but it was Auriemma who sealed the game for the capital side with three minutes left.
It’s looking increasingly difficult for St Andrews United to make the top six, although the Barnetts Park side have games in hand.
Andy Brown’s Saints trailed to a Darren Downie goal at the break but three goals in eleven second-half minutes effectively won the game for Blackburn,
Downie’s second, plus goals from Jordan Bain and Calum Mcdowall, saw the Lothian side lead 4-0.
A Ross Cunningham strike on 79 minutes was nothing more than a consolation for Saints as they lost to Blackburn for the second week running.
Dundonald Bluebell went out of the Qualifying Cup at the hands of Bo’ness United at Moorside Park with Nicky Prentices’s thirdminute strike the game’s only goal.
Crossgates Primrose progressed to the first round of the League Cup after an emphatic 5-1 win at home to Dunipace at Humbug Park.
Scott Hynd put Primrose in front on 13 minutes before Barry Paterson made it 2-0 just before half-time.
Hynd and Paterson both scored again before Dunipace netted a consolation on 74 minutes. Mark Mckenzie ended any worries with a fifth, four minutes later.
Hill of Beath Hawthorn earned a South Region Challenge Cup last-16 tie at Newtongrange Star after a 3-1 win over Musselburgh Athletic at Kiers Park.
Daniel Watt gave them the lead in the first minute and an own goal doubled the advantage just before half-time. Mathu King brought Musselburgh back into it on 50 minutes but a Lee Reid penalty took the Fife side safely to the next round.
Lowland League side Stirling University needed extra time to beat Jeanfield Swifts and progress to the quarter-finals.
Eachainn Miller put the students in front after 10 minutes but Conor Mclaren’s two goals put Swifts in front at half-time.
Emmott and Mailer put the University back in the lead but Mclaren sent the tie into extra time with an equaliser five minutes from time. Bonnar sealed the visitors’ victory with five minutes to go.
