Window is big deal for City, says Smith
BRECHIN CITY 0 AIRDRIEONIANS 1
Brechin City manager Barry Smith admits that the January transfer window is going to be hugely important as he strives to steer his team away from the bottom end of the table.
Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat from Airdrieonians was City’s fourth league defeat in succession and the manager knows that reshaping his squad next month is a priority if they are to avoid a relegation battle.
“January is a big month now as it was always going to be,” he said.
“We really need to be looking to shake things up but that will be determined by different things. The January window is always very difficult but it’s trying to get the right players in who are going to be better than the ones who are here at the moment and also hoping that the players we want to bring in are available, but it’s something we are already looking at.”
City’s problems were further exacerbated with the loss of influential midfielder Callum Tapping shortly before half-time with what appeared to be a bad ankle injury which could potentially see him sidelined for a lengthy period.
Smith said: “Although we hate to be beaten the result pales into insignificance after Callum’s injury which appears to be a really bad one and the thoughts of everyone here are with him.”
The match was evenly balanced throughout but the Diamonds grabbed all three points from the penalty spot in the 72nd minute when former City striker Darryl Duffy converted after Dale Carrick had been upended in the box by Jordan Sinclair.
