Livestock under the hammer at United Auctions’ Stirling sale

United Auctions, Stirling, had a catalogue entry of 842 rams and females. It also had an entry of 341 pedigree Lleyn rams and females at the annual Lleyn Society show and sale and a catalogue entry of 48 Beltex rams at the annual Beltex society show and sale.

The sale was topped by a Bluefaced Leicester shearling consigned by K Campbell, Claylands, and bought by J Struthers, Gribloch Farm, for £2,000. In the accredited section, the top price in the Texels of £1,000 was achieved three times.

Firstly by W Dunlop & Son, Elmscleugh, selling to J Kay & Son, Hartside, also J Buchan, Torbax selling to Bonsor Estate, and finally by JA Gibson, Cowgrove, selling to JW Mcewan & Sons, Mount Farm.

Top price in the Suffolk section was £850 realised twice from F White, Carwood Farm, selling to TA Doig, Shannochar and Mr and Mrs Watson, West Newlands.

The non-accredited section was topped by a Texel shearling from J More, Townhead, realising £1,000 to A Macarthur, Cretlevane.

In the Beltex show and sale, the top price at 1,800gn was a shearling from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuth­ill, selling to Monzie Farms.

In the Lleyn sale, the top price of 1,350gn was paid for a shearling from H Goldie, South Bowerhouse­s, selling to T Barnes, Rhemore.

The overall averages were as follows:

Shearlings – Bluefaced Leicester £554.32 (-£108.53 on the year); Texel £549.84 (+ £74.69); Suffolk £429.42 (-£3.76); Beltex cross £372 (+ £25.85).

Ram lambs – Bluefaced Leicester £201.20 (£196.58); Texel £311.74 (-£28.85).

Beltex Society sale – Shearlings £679.59.

Lleyn Society sale – gimmers, 165, £142.18; ewe lambs, 47, £88.72; shearlings, 13, £636.46.

Lleyn dispersal sale from Ex A Scott, Yonderton – ewe lambs, 90, to a top of £60 and average of £58.27; gimmers, 92, to a top of £125 and average of £111.66; four-crop-ewes, 29, to a top of £74 and average of £72.
