Angus Virtual School proves it is a class act at national awards
An Angus education provider has been named among the big winners in a national awards scheme recognising excellence in the profession.
Angus Virtual School was among a dozen from across the country to pick up a gong at the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) Excellence in Professional learning awards in Glasgow.
Education chiefs developed the virtual school as an innovative approach to provision with less resource, within the wider aspect of the authority’s Transforming Angus programme.
The awards were launched in 2017 to celebrate those within the education sector in Scotland who excel at leadership, always show professionalism and bring about a sustained impact on learning and learners.
GTCS also honoured five programmes for professional recognition, among them the Pathways project operated by Dundee University.
GTCS chief executive Ken Muir said: “These awards recognise and celebrate the commitment to high-quality professional learning and leadership of learning shown by our teachers, learning communities and organisations.
“This type of learning has the potential to transform the lives of children and young people in our schools.
“The effect their dedication has on schools, young people and the wider teaching profession is to be commended.”
Keynote speakers were MSP Claire Adamson, chairwoman of Holyrood’s education and skills committee, and Professor Margery Mcmahon of Glasgow University.
