JUNIORS: Carnoustie Panmure now seven points clear at top of the league

- MARK JOHNSON

Carnoustie Panmure have gone seven points clear at the top of the Super League North table following a comfortable 3-1 win over Forfar West End at Laing Park.

The Gowfers took the lead on 12 minutes with a fine passing move that culminated with a good cross by Michael Cruickshank and a thumping header from Paul Mclellan that gave Gary Thain no chance.

Despite lots of pressure it wasn’t until the 77th minute that Carnoustie doubled their lead when Ryan Dignan headed in a Gordon Macdonald cross and then, six minutes later, Jamie Winter fizzed a ball 50 yards into the path of Mclellan who cut in before curling the ball into the bottom corner. West End scored a consolation goal when Graeme Hart netted from the penalty spot after Sam Simpson was penalised for a push.

Dundee North End had to come from behind to take a point at home to Downfield. Dale Davidson put the Spiders in front on 21 minutes and Kerr Hay added a second before the half-hour mark to put the visitors in charge.

North End boss Ross Lunan must have come up with wise words at halftime as Ryan Smith pulled one back on the hour then equalised with 20 minutes left but that was as far as they got and Lunan’s men had to settle for a point.

Lochee United looked on for a shock defeat at home to Scone Thistle at Thomson Park but the reigning champions took all three points with a late penalty. An own goal with 20 minutes to go had put Thistle ahead and they looked to be taking the points until Kevin Milne equalised on 86 minutes and, in stoppage time, Scott Mccomiskie scored the winner from the spot.

Broughty Athletic were another side to leave it late after they battled back twice to take a point from Luncarty.

An opportunist strike from Robbie Holden saw the Perthshire side lead at half-time but Josh Skelly levelled on 65 minutes. Jonny Kelly’s side regained the lead through Richard Donovan and looked to be taking the points until Greg Warwick smashed home a late equaliser.

Kennoway led 3-2 with 20 minutes to go at Park View against Super League South leaders Fauldhouse United but then had keeper Willie Thomson sent off and, with no keeper on the bench, conceded three late goals to lose 5-3.

Michael Wallace put Fauldhouse in front on 23 minutes but Kennoway were level within a minute through Paul Brown. Lee Bryce made it 2-1 on 28 minutes only for Fauldhouse to equalise on 31 minutes.

Liam Newton put Kennoway back in front on 58 minutes but, after Thomson saw red, Sam Watson equalised on 71 minutes. David O’donnell scored soon after before the visitors added a fifth with two minutes remaining.

A goal from former Raith Rovers defender Colin Leiper was enough to send Lochore Welfare to another defeat at home to Armadale Thistle. Leiper headed home late on to leave Welfare still looking for their first win.

Thornton Hibs made hard work of beating Harthill Royal at Memorial Park and it needed a late winner from Chris Ireland to take the points.

Craig Johnston put Harthill in front after 15 minutes but Garry Thomson equalised 10 minutes before the break and, seven minutes later, Daniel Mcnab put the home side in front with a great free-kick.

Greg Fernie equalised for Royal on 75 minutes and it looked like Thornton would have to settle for a draw until Ireland popped up with four minutes left.

East Craigie have gone top of the Premier League North after an emphatic second-half performance against pre-match leaders Blairgowrie at Craigie Park. Gary Axworthy put Blairgowrie in front in the first half but the home side roared back with secondhalf goals from James Malone, Finlay Baird, Rory Faulkner, George Johnston and Adam Brown.

Brechin Vics travelled to Ogilvy Park without three defenders and it showed as they lost 7-1 to Arbroath Vics. Josh Chalmers put Arbroath in front and Marc Walker made it two on 35 minutes before Rikki Gillespie pulled one back two minutes later.

Walker added his second and restored Arbroath’s two-goal cushion just before half-time then completed his hat-trick within two minutes of the restart. Craig Tosh made it five on 55 minutes, Andi Manolache added number six with 20 minutes left and Chalmers hit number seven and his second on 78 minutes.

Coupar Angus piled pressure on Michael Gormley’s injury hit Harp, winning 3-2 at Foxhall Park. Alan Cruickshank scored two for Coupar with Harp not helping their cause with an own goal. Nathan Scott and a trialist scored for Harp.

Violet beat Forfar Albion 2-1 at Glenesk. Derek Johnstone and Sean Tucker were the home scorers with Duncan Reid netting for Albion.
